21

Sonoran sunrise starts at noon,
Be it a myth, truth, or ruse.
A book, the beach, dip like the loon,
A walk, hand soft, shore stone smooth.
The year-tide pulls, lulls from a far,
Home, home where the chollas bloom.
Sunset "so long" but still "too soon,"
Comer, campfire, sea-shell spoon,
Howl hounds and bouillon tunes.
Under the dark of white dunes
She steals kisses like shooting stars
Full in heart, body, and soul, mi Luna, my Moon.

Dancing with Africans

I lay in this box, with its top
Its sides, bottom, and its lock,
Lathered lacquer fresh from the shop
Stiff as board, hard as a rock
Creased, folded white like a napkin
A seed pod for the stone crop.
In suits with boots and pocket clocks
They hoist me towards my farm plot,
Desert dust devils up their socks
As they kick, stop, lock-n-pop.
I am Dancing with Africans
In this box, with its top, waiting for the beat drop.

Mischief Maker

When you close your eyes we awake
Shade creatures of the opaque.
Come close, I swear these fangs are fake
How does your trachea taste?
Spread our wings, we feast, we're night bloods,
We "enemies of the stake."
By another name when day breaks
Fairies, pixies, sweet as cake.
With magical myst we tamed drakes,
Come dance with us on the lake.
Riddles and rhymes, up to no good,
How much more mischief can we mischief makers make?

Poison Medicine

They say we all have addictions
But some come with prescriptions.
Beach sun above brand new oceans
Mountains made your dominion
Use protection and play it safe
Whole Foods, back bends, go vegan.
Reputation and dividends
How much tail you spin and friends
Activism education
Favorite freedom Facebook trend.
Did I hear you right by mistake,
Was that "pick your poison" or "take your medicine."

A Wednesday Night

Fresh digs, pretty girls, and some bub
Then thrown face down in the mud,
Rap out the speakers no ear buds
Then rap sheets and beats by clubs,
Catchin' vibes groovin' with the crew
Then blue eyes get wrong way rubbed,
Havin' a blast or grabbin' grub
Then "Where's the gun, where's the drugs?"
I see you, I see you get judged
By the color of their scrubs.
They'd be lying if they told you
That they never assumed the color of your blood.

Kindred

Hidden is the gift the night gives
A sprite a spirit kindred.
It was the stars from which she slid
A glimpse of the intrepid
Call it feeling, intuition,
Tingly shakes I could not shed.
We listened and shared narratives
Like two stumbly bumbly squids
On connection we swam and lived
Intersecting pro quo quid.
We both bid on indecision,
No one hurt us as much as our empathy did.

Mindcrap

I look like i just took a shat,
This dim flashlight on my hat.
We breath in musty mountain draft,
Our eyes eaten by the bats.
It's easy to lose track of time,
Remember the one path back.
Echo, echo, echo, we clap,
Is this shit gonna collapse?
Cracks and crumbles, knew it's a trap,
I can't breath with lungs gone black.
Silence replaced canary chime,
We gotta build, who else is gonna mine this crap?
